2025 Jeep Gladiator 4xe plug-in hybrid incoming: BYD Shark and Ford Ranger PHEV rival confirmed
The 2025 Jeep Gladiator 4xe has been confirmed as the off-road icon’s latest electrifies model..
The plug-in hybrid version of the 4×4 ute will rock up next year using the same PHEV 2.0-litre turbo from the current Wrangler 4xe that already on sale in the US.
It’s the latest PHEV ute to be confirmed, joining the Ford Ranger and BYD Shark. Unlike them, we’re not yet sure if the Gladiator 4xe will make it to Australia.

Jeep’s boss Antonio Filosa announced the news on his LinkedIn profile but did not release any more information on the incoming electrified ute.
But expect the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 (209kW/347Nm) that powers the Jeep ute in Australia to be replaced by a smaller 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder blended with an electric motor and a 17.3kWh lithium-ion battery.
Combined, the Gladiator 4xe should produce around 280kW and 637Nm of torque, with the 4×4 ute set to feature a pure-electric range of more than 30km.
There’s no word on exact timings for the Gladiator 4xe but it’s hoped among Jeep execs that it will fill the gap left by dropping the old turbo-diesel from the range.
Sadly, for Australia buyers looking for a more efficient pick-up it’s uncertain the electrified Gladiator will make it Down Under as the Wrangler 4xe has already been ruled out for the updated 2024 Wrangler range that touched down here last month.
That said, the US brand does offer its flagship 4xe plug-in hybrid version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee that combines a 280kW peak power with an all-electric range of 52km.
