Geely Auto has started advertising for Australian staff as it prepares for a 2025 lift-off here.
It’s shaping up to be a Geely-fest as Zeekr will go on-sale in Australia this year while Lynk & Co is also expected in 2025.
EV Central understands the Geely Galaxy E5 will be one of two foundation models for the brand here, along with the slightly larger Geely Galaxy L7 plug-in hybrid SUV.
But Geely will be able to draw on wide variety of ICE, hybrid and EV models under its own badge, as well as its Galaxy and Geometry sub-brands to expand its local line-up. Like BYD, it is very much a mainstream brand looking to make big sales inroads.
The L7 was Galaxy’s launch model in February 2023, while the E5 was revealed this week after a substantial amount of teasing.
It will go on-sale in China in the next month or two priced from about 150,000 yuan ($32,000)
Geely has still to release much information about the Galaxy E5, but courtesy of China’s MIIT we know it is 4615mm long, 1901mm wide, 1670mm high and has a 2750mm wheelbase.
Based on the Geely Electric Architecture (GEA), the E5 has a single e-motor reported to produce 160kW, while the specifications of the LFP battery pack have not been released.
Meanwhile, the L7 is a 4.7m long. 1905mm wide, 1685mm high five-seat SUV with a 2785mm wheelbase.
It employs a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and a permanent magnet e-motor to offer 287kW/535Nm. It drives the front wheels via a three-speed transmission and claims a 6.9 sec 0-100km/h time.
There are two battery choices – 9.11kWh LFP and 18.7kWh LFP. EV-range is 43km for the former and 90km (WLTP) for the latter. Overall range is claimed to be up to 1370km.
It is priced from around $26,000 in China.
Geely Galaxy also offers the E8 and L6 sedans in China. All-up, by 2025, the brand says it will have four PHEVs and three EVs on sale in its home country.
