2024 MG4 and MG ZS EVs score industry-leading 10-year warranty

MG Australia has introduced a market-leading 10-year/250,000km warranty across its line-up that includes the all-electric MG4 and MG ZS EV.

It’s an aggressive move sure to bolster consumer confidence in the Chinese MG brand, and raise eyebrows amongst its low-price competitors.

The jump from the previous seven-year warranty term brings additional peace of mind to MG buyers, and makes this warranty – on paper – now the most generous in Australia. It beats Mitsubishi’s 10-year/200,000km cover, which is only applicable if services are performed at a Mitsubishi dealer after five years.

MG says its 10-year warranty covers all its electric vehicle’s parts, including its high-voltage battery – the previous best being an eight-year battery warranty. The 10-year battery protection matches Lexus’ warranty for its electric models.

Available on all models now, the 10-year warranty’s subject to the same terms and conditions as the previous seven-year arrangement that required all cars to be serviced on time and to schedule, using genuine parts, but not necessarily at an MG dealership.

The 10-year cover isn’t applicable on already-purchased vehicles.

Thought to bolster its customer aftersales offering ahead of a further dozen new Chinese brands entering the Australian market before the end of 2025, MG has stressed the new warranty is permanent and not a promotional gimmick.

It overshadows Hyundai, BYD and Mitsubishi eight-year/160,000km warranties for their electric and hybrid batteries. Toyota offers a 10-year battery coverage warranty.

“If you’re looking for value and peace of mind from a new car purchase, the length and quality of the factory warranty should be as important as the horsepower,” said MG Australia chief commercial officer Giles Belcher.

“We are listening to our customers. We do think a longer warranty is more attractive, and it also reiterates trust in our cars, particularly our EV range.

“MG’s 10-year warranty delivers unmatched peace of mind and ensures that you are fully supported on every journey.”
